peels.

the southerner in me has been craving buttermilk biscuits for a few weeks now, so i jumped at the
idea to have brunch at peels. the coffee was strong; the conversation, stellar; the biscuits with eggs
and fried chicken, ridiculous in the best way. and those windows! that ceiling! i'd go back for the
charming, chic farmhouse mood alone. a satisfying saturday indeed.

28 February 2012

it rained outside, so we camped inside.

i was recently introduced to the work of tim walker and i can't stop looking at this photo. every bit of everything i aim to face each day with is right here. i ache just looking at it.

and today my prayer is this: may this philosophy always guide me. today, next week, one day: when it rains outside, please oh please may i think to camp inside.

saturday brunch.

week after week, all week long, it's conversation over late and lazy breakfast that i most look forward to. weekend brunch is the one plan i can always count on, and there's comfort in the ritual.

a postcard

from coney island.

such needed time away from the city rattle and hum, such good friends to spend it with. mostly
we went for the ocean, but the whimsy certainly didn't hurt, and the day is one of the best i've
ever lived. i've been thinking about it all week.

confetti on the beach.

a whole monday to ourselves, the last stop on the f train, and no winter blues here.

fette sau.

fette sau over in williamsburg has communal tables, craft beers served in mason jars, and the best
pulled pork and baked beans i've ever had. it's in a converted garage, the menu changes daily, and
the meat is raised organically and responsibly. there are no plates, only brown paper-lined trays, and
if you don't see the small neon sign out front, you'll miss it all entirely. i'm in.

williamsburg.

i can't be sure if it was the juxtaposition of graffiti and fire escapes, the gritty and the adorned, or
the long hunt for blood bank on vinyl finally coming to an end that did it, but i fell a little bit in love
 with williamsburg over the weekend.

i had been there twice before, once by accident when i first moved here and another time one night
last summer, and i remember liking it just fine. but this! this time was different. i couldn't get enough
and ended up spending a lot of the weekend there asking myself, how did i miss this before?
