2010: the highlights.

in january, i said hello to 2010, celebrated my first friend to have a baby,  and started my last semester of college. february saw me turn 22 and charleston's first snow in two decades fell on valentine's. i visited my dallas family over spring break in march and attended my last college classes ever in april. in may, my whole family spent a long, lazy weekend in charleston celebrating my graduation and in june, i got my camera, started this little blog, and took a trip to see my brother play baseball in omaha. i spent the 4th of july in the florida keys and came home just in time to see my best friends off as they moved away from charleston. In august, i went to nyc for the first time and moved there in septemberthe leaves changed just in time for a trip up to sleepy hollow and for dad and christy and aunt glenda to visit in october . november saw a trip over to new jersey to visit kimmy, the macy's parade, and thanksgiving in the city. I christmased in the city all december long before heading home to south carolina, where i savored our magical family holiday, reunited with old friends, and saw my very first white christmas.

so long, 2010! you were wonderful.

28 December 2010

winter date with dad.

the day after christmas, dad took me on a date to biltmore estate, where the snow competed with the house for the most beautiful sight of the day.

we toured the house (250 rooms! 43 bathrooms!) and the gardens, though the gardens looked more like a winter wonderland. The balmy conservatory, where flowers and ferns thrive year-round, provided a colorful contrast to the bleak landscape outdoors.

dates with my dad have been a special part of our relationship my whole life and i always look forward to them. he even held my bag and did some ice skating for me. what a guy.

christmas eve.

Christmas Eve at our house is spent celebrating my stepbrother Zach's birthday. Good food, great family, fun times.

white christmas.

For the first time in my life, Christmas is white. The last time that my hometown saw snow on Christmas was the year that my grandmothers were pregnant with my parents--1963! Needless to say, I am thrilled.

The last gift was hardly unwrapped when we tore out of the house for a snowball fight. Some of us didn't even stop to grab a coat or gloves.

A happy Christmas indeed.
