chinatown.

in my mind, chinatown has bright lights and red lanterns. in reality, it is dark and dirty and smells weird and has eels in tanks and ducks hanging in windows.

i now realize that i have sort of been imagining disney world's china pavilion. it really doesn't matter what it looks like, though, because it tastes amazing.

christy comes to play!

christy became my very first visitor when she arrived on thursday for a long weekend in my shiny new city. i looked forward to her visit for reasons like:

1. i missed her. 2. she loves all of the same things that i do and i knew we would adventure all the weekend long. 3. it isn't often that we get to hang out just the two of us and, as much as we love my dad, girl time is important. 4. she brought my winter clothes. 5. i couldn't wait to show her how well i know my way around already, so that she and dad would stop worrying. but i don't mind if they still worry a little.

she arrived late thursday night, so we kept our first outing simple: shake shack and a walk around the neighborhood.

it was her first shake shack experience and she loved it! i didn't expect anything less. shake shack is awesome and i don't know anyone who doesn't think so. if you come visit me, expect a trip. or two.

oh, hey there, fall.

fall calls for comfort food.

i pretended that yesterday was the first day of fall (or maybe i went all day actually thinking it was...) and spent the whole day excited. i broke out my stockings and boots, took the really long way to work, and stopped for a pumpkin spice latte.

all day, i thought about how much i love autumn and how different this year's will be from all of my other autumns because this is a new york autumn.

by 4 pm, i couldn't take it any more and i texted angie to announce my need to celebrate with her. she immediately fired back an announcement of her own: me + her + s'mac, the mac-n-cheese restaurant in the east village, because mac-n-cheese is a fall food, of course.

and if that wasn't enough, the trip to butter lane was. pumpkin and chocolate cupcakes and an evening thunderstorm? i hope autumn stays forever.
